Be A Yogi! - Yoga 3:30 Mondays

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but I wanted to share about our class this week. The class got to have a chance to "Be The Yogi" this week and teach a portion of the class. It was lots of fun, and sort of enlightening as far as their favorite parts of the class. We also took the book Green Eggs & Ham & acted out the entire book in yoga. Hopefully they will remember some of it to share at home. :-) We are continuing in our practice & looking forward to presenting a piece of our class next month.

Yoga is FUN!

In yoga, we have been learning about the elements of yoga, and how to incorporate things we learn in yoga into our daily lives. We are learning new asanas & practicing some challenging ones as well. We have been playing yoga games, working with partners & groups, and of course, going upside down!

Public Art Class Thursdays 3:30-4:30

On an Indian Summer day in November, we had an amazing Public Art class out in Isham Park. The students had been preparing for this day by practicing tracing shadows, filling in space on a large scale and collaborating together. Everyone was urged put their surroundings into the work, and the entire space was filled with words about Peace and Recycling, drawings of trees and of course scribbles. It was a great balance of working singularly and collectively, something of great importance when working on a public art piece. The students understood this was a gift to the community and others that saw it. They also comprehended that although chalk is temporary and will wash away in the rain, the true art is being able to do it again and again.

Drama in the Yoga Studio!

Jane: Psssst. Why’s there so much drama in the yoga studio?

John: You haven’t heard?! It’s the hottest news in town! Every Friday during Bread and Yoga’s after school program, Royal Family Productions is serving up Drama Class to kids age 5-12.

Jane: Hey- that’s neat! What have they been doing in class?

John: Rumor has it they’ve been working on confidence boosting, teambuilding, and improvisational exercises like “Sculptures”, “Machine”, and “Jump In, Jump Out”. And that’s not all. This week, they get to read the script!

Jane: Script? For what?

John: As part of the program, the students get to take everything they learn through the awesome theatre games and actually perform a fully produced, original musical complete with song, dance, and lots of great acting. This past week they even started learning some new choreography!

Jane: This sounds great! How can I learn more?

John: You can learn more about Royal Family Productions, a theatre company dedicated to “Making theater accessible to everyone”, at their website www.royalfamilyproductions.org.
